Today marks the release day for the latest release in the STYLSS Loves You series, in which many producers from the record label’s roster come together and share new or unreleased tracks in a big free-to-download compilation. The first volume was a straightforward label compilation of original tracks from their lineup, distributed digitally and on limited cassette, while the second was a very long (and very worthwhile) compilation of remixes from the label, with its punchy highlights including EASTGHOST’s remix of Petey Pablo’s “Raise Up” and Lostodyssey’s destructive remix of Kreayshawn’s “Gucci Gucci.”
And now, STYLSS Loves You Volume Three is upon us, and is comprised entirely of original collaborations between STYLSS affiliates. On this compilation, you can catch Echavox and Koolthrasher collaborating, Bleep Bloop and Quarry coming together for a track, and Wokr and Pacific Patterns combining their talents for a new dance-floor barnburner, the zany and aptly-titled “EDM Banger,” which we’re excited to debut for you today.
A track which features two producers straight out of Portland, Pacific Patterns and Wokr, “EDM Banger” is an anomalous piece of dance music, a track that manages to be immediate and danceable in the way many Beatport “EDM bangers” are, while also maintaining a strange and left-field flair that you might expect from a STYLSS-distributed release. At first listening to it, you think it’s going to be more generic 128BPM EDM festival fodder, but as the song goes along, it begins falling into odd grooves and tempos, and never quite feels generic or cloying, despite its outward appearance. It’s definitely a unique track.
