75 - 75

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome, welcome, to 75 Bands in 75 Days, where we bring you the best talent that the Pacific Northwest has to offer, one day and one band at a time. Today our band is a promising up-and-comer in the post-rock world, Oregon’s This Patch of Sky.

Hailing from Portland, Oregon, This Patch of Sky is an instrumentally-lavish post-rock band with a familiar, yet progressive sound. The band takes a modern approach to post-rock, most reminiscent of bands like Russian Circles and This Will Destroy You. Their songs contain no vocals and are heavy on progression, and most of the ones they pull together start out very slow and droning, but as the song progresses they evolve gradually, and by the end explode into very loud and spacious rock songs. It takes a lot from progressive rock as well, and will be sure to please fans of both styles.

This Patch of Sky released their sophomore self-titled album in August of this year, which was met with much acclaim from post-rock fans and Portland locals. If you can’t get enough contemporary post-rock, check out This Patch of Sky. Chances are you’ll be satisfied.
