50-50-FEATURED

Welcome, welcome back to the 2015 outing of 50 Bands in 50 Days, our send-off of 2015 with a look at some of the best bands coming out of the Pacific Northwest. This showcase is brought to you by GigTown. Today we’d like to turn your ears onto another great local alternative rock band, Villains of Yesterday.

“There are milestones along every journey that mark the highlights and lowlights. It’s how you navigate your path that defines the person you are.” Say the liner notes for rock band Villains of Yesterday’s forthcoming LP, Dead Reckoning.

And to borrow from the cover of an old Rolling Stone magazine, “What a long, strange trip it’s been” for the Villains of Yesterday. The last 18 months for the band have been a series of incredible highs, immersive lows and everything in between. The band started 2015 out deeply thankful for the recovery of their main guitarist, Carl Klein, who was able to fight cancer and win.

Riding on that positive note, the group entered Robert Lang Studios in February, and started capturing the recording sessions that would eventually become Dead Reckoning. Working with producer Eric Janko and engineer Nick Greene, all of the “Garys” starting taking full advantage of the amazing, ambient studio facilities of Robert Lang Studios. While these sessions lasted well into the summer, requiring several jars of peanut butter pretzels, QFC cheese sandwiches and blessings from Yoda, eventually everyone was content with the finished product.

The first single from the new record is titled “Sleight of Underhand,” and is available digitally everywhere, having been released on Black Friday 2015. You can purchase the single here.

A second single titled “Love Song” will be released after the new year, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Dead Reckoning, the ten-song followup to the band’s previous album Zero in the Sun, will be released digitally and as a limited edition CD in early 2016
